The United States is the largest host of international students in the world in absolute terms. For the first time in 2015/16, over one million international students studied in the US, almost doubling the number in the US from 2005/06. International education is worth US$32.8 billion to the US economy, and supports over 400,000 jobs (NAFSA, 2016). The US is ranked eleventh in terms of international students as percentage of total higher education enrolment; New Zealand is fourth (Open Doors, 2016).
