International photo round-up

Here is some of what our International and in-country teams have been up to promoting studying in Aotearoa New Zealand over the past four weeks.

Building global connections in East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

ENZ’s Regional Director Asia, Ben Burrowes and Naluri Bella, ENZ’s Programme Manager Indonesia, travelled to Samarinda city on 11-12 May to build a connection with the Head of Education and Culture Agency of East Kalimantan Province. Potential collaborations in the space of English skills, teacher training, and vocational education were discussed.

Ben and Naluri also had the chance to meet in-person with some of the participants of the New Zealand - Indonesia Youth Cultural Programme. This is a 5-month virtual English boot camp featuring NZ EdTech provider, Chasing Time English, with 111 students participating in total.

NZ and Japanese students team up for Code Camp

ENZ teamed up with the North Asia CAPE and Code Avengers to deliver a Code Camp to secondary school students in Japan and New Zealand on Saturday 20 May. Steve Budd from Code Avengers in Tokyo facilitated Code Camp with students from Japanese high schools. The NZ students joined online with a Code Avengers representative at their school.

Strengthening tertiary partnerships in Yangzhou

ENZ attended the China-NZ Higher Education Symposium and NZ Fair at Yangzhou University 19-20 May. All eight NZ universities participated in the Symposium (7 in person) by sharing pre-recorded videos on three panel topics:

Transnational Education, Tripartite Partnership Programmes, and University-Industry Collaboration. Over 90 attendees joined the symposium.

Agents in Cali

 On the road with the Ambassador in Colombia

ENZ’s Director of Engagement Latin America, Javiera Visedo, has been travelling in Colombia over the past few weeks, connecting with agents, delivering training sessions, meeting with students and visiting key partners. She was joined for some of these engagements by the NZ Ambassador to Colombia, Nicci Stilwell, with the Ambassador attending agent events in Cali and Bogotá and visiting Icesi University in Cali.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the first ascent of Mt Everest

ENZ India attended the 70th anniversary celebration of the first ascent of Mt Everest. The event brought together the families of Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Lord John Hunt and a large community of mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts. This was a great opportunity for ENZ to leverage NZ Inc and invite key education sector contacts.

State of Maranhão delegation explores the NZ education system education system

A delegation from the State of Maranhão, Brazil, visited Aotearoa New Zealand last week to discuss best practice in education, bilingualism and indigenous education. The delegation, led by Felipe Costa Camarão, Deputy Governor and Secretary of Education, had meetings with NZ Government education agencies, Te Pūkenga, PTEs, EdTechs, Language and Secondary schools in Wellington and Auckland.

Prime Minister’s Scholarship recipients learn about bamboo conservation on Bali adventure.

The Erana Kaunga Tuhura Whānau Trust kicked off its 7-week programme in Bali from April - May 2023. Their primary focus is to learn about bamboo conservation and whether bamboo can be a part of the forestry solution for land regeneration for the future of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

They also had the opportunity explore Balinese culture, which included a visit to the impressive Brahma AramaVihara Buddhist Monastery (above)
