ENZ Acting General Manager International, Ben Burrowes (pictured centre right), hosted a delegation from Japan led by Mayor of Ichihara City, Joji Koide (pictured centre left), at the ENZ Wellington office.

Representatives from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Education also attended. This visit is a testament to New Zealand’s ongoing education relationship with Ichihara City. ENZ signed an Education Cooperation Arrangement with Ichihara City in February 2020 and Ichihara City has sent 30 students on "Youth Overseas Study Abroad Assistance Program" to Nelson and Whanganui over the past two years.

Japanese student Soichiro Inoue (pictured far right) is a winner of the 75th H.I.H Prince Takamado All Japan Inter-Middle School English Oratorical Contest, supported by the Imperial House of Japan. He was awarded the opportunity to study in an English-speaking country and has enjoyed his time in New Zealand. He studied at Christ’s College for two weeks in July to August. Christ's College covered the tuition fees, Air New Zealand sponsored his flights and ENZ supported with his homestay fees.

Soichiro joined the Christchurch Mayoral Welcome and really enjoyed exploring Christchurch.
